Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions apply to applicants for the Future Leaders programme from a September 2012 start.
If you are accepted onto the programme, you will be asked to sign a contract with Future Leaders that will contain many of the points below. The information here is for your reference, and you are asked that you have read and understood these on the application form.
- I understand that if I give any information which is false, or I withhold any relevant information, this may lead to my application being rejected, or if already appointed, to termination of contract with the providers of Future Leaders and any associated employment.
- I understand that information given on the form will be processed by a computer and used for registration and equal opportunities monitoring purposes under the Data Protection Acts 1984 and 1998.
- I understand that parts of my assessment for entry onto the programme will be recorded for training purposes, either by video camera or voice recording; these recordings will be confidential and not passed onto any third party.
- I understand that if accepted onto the programme I will be expected to attend the full pre-training programme in summer 2012. If not in my home city region, I will be eligible for room and board for this training where deemed necessary by Future Leaders. I will also be expected to attend all mandatory training and at least two optional training sessions per year over the course of the three year programme.
- I understand that if accepted onto the programme, I will be employed by a residency school in my home city region in which I will be placed by Future Leaders and that while my preferences will be taken into account, the school and Future Leaders' decision will be final. (Not applicable for internal applicants)
- I understand that if accepted onto the programme, I will be paid a salary by the residency school up to a cap of £50,000 for a one year contract based on my salary upon applying to the programme (or if not currently in employment the last salary I received when in employment). This will be rounded up to the nearest point on the relevant leadership scale above that amount. The relevant scale is that which applies to the school in question for the year in which the participant will be employed. NB: not applicable for internal applicants.
- I understand that if accepted on the programme, Future Leaders will carry out mandatory assessments on my progress during my residency year and beyond. These assessments will identify key development areas and help determine the level of senior leadership I should be applying for during the job application process for year 2 and beyond.
- I understand that on joining the Future Leaders programme, I will be expected to contribute back to the programme either £7,500 or 30 days of my time (or a combination of both) over five years by completing projects and consultancy work that has been allocated to me by Future Leaders.
- I understand that Future Leaders reserve the right to terminate this payback arrangement and demand monetary payment of the outstanding payback fee owed in cash if I elect to leave the programme or if I am exited from the programme. In special circumstances (e.g. maternity leave, serious illness) the Future Leaders Charitable Trust may extend the payback period or in very exceptional cases may waive the payback fee. Further details regarding the payback arrangements will be outlined in my contract.
- I understand that Future Leaders’ criteria of a challenging school is defined as: a maintained secondary school or Academy with more than 50% of its pupils living in the lowest 30% of the IDACI areas or with a minimum of 15% within London and 10% outside London of pupils eligible for Free School Meals or where GCSEs results means that the school falls in the lowest 30% of the national distribution.
- I understand that if accepted on the programme I will be expected to make credible attempts to become a headteacher of a challenging school (which meets Future Leaders’ criteria) and during the period prior to achieving headship, I will seek senior leadership experiences in a challenging urban school: either in a Future Leaders residency school, an Academy, a challenging school (which meets Future Leaders’ criteria) or a school agreed with Future Leaders which can credibly provide experience in a challenging environment.
- I understand that the Future Leaders Charitable Trust will provide training, support and advice to me, which will include career support, with the aim of my becoming a successful headteacher of a challenging urban school. I understand that I am ultimately responsible for finding employment and that the Future Leaders Charitable Trust is not liable in the event that I do not secure employment and will not contribute towards my salary beyond the first year of the programme.
- I understand that I may be exited from the programme if I fail to comply with the obligations and commitments set out in my contract, and/or if I fail to achieve the requisite standards of assessment. I also understand I may be exited from the programme after my residency year – or at any other time during my path to headship if I choose to work in a school that does not meet Future Leaders’ criteria of a challenging urban school or if I leave secondary school leadership at a senior level altogether.
- I understand that the Future Leaders programme is a charity partly funded by public sources and the availability of this funding will determine the number of available places on the programme and whether the programme should continue; as such I accept that should public funding be withdrawn from the programme or reduced, I may not be invited to take part in assessments to join Future Leaders or given an offer as soon as the target number of participants has been recruited or if the programme is discontinued.
