Schools with Future Leaders have significantly smaller attainment gaps and improved GCSE results
Independent research has found that schools with senior leaders who have been trained on the Future Leaders programme are, on average, improving GCSE performance faster, and have significantly smaller attainment gaps, than comparable schools. Key findings include:
- Schools with a Future Leader working in them for the last two academic years and longer have an attainment gap of 12% points between FSM/CLA pupils and all other pupils attaining 5+ A* ‐ C (incl. English and maths). This is less than half the national attainment gap (28%) and smaller than the gap in Future Leaders eligible schools (20%).
- Schools with a Future Leader working in them for the last two academic years have a 6% points improvement rate in 5+ A*-C GCSEs (including English and maths) between 2009/2010 and 2010/2011, which is double the national average of 3% points.
- Schools with a Future Leader headteacher for the last two years have improved their 5+ A*-C GSCE results (including English and maths) by an average of 20% over that period.
