| Future Leaders
offers an opportunity for schools to pro-actively address imminent
succession planning issues, whilst also becoming part of a collaborative
community improving system leadership. There are several ways
in which your school can benefit from Future Leaders, so that
together we can grow high quality senior leaders for urban schools.
These opportunities are outlined below.

1. Appoint a Future Leader to fill a vacancy in your senior leadership
team
Our Future Leaders receive highly specialised
training and coaching during their residency, designed to fully
prepare them to become a senior leader of an urban school. They
are equipped with the strategies, skills and vision necessary
to making a lasting impact in your school.
The 2007 cohort of participants are currently
looking to secure full time senior leadership positions to commence
in September 2008. In most cases, this will be at Deputy Head
level, although some may be looking for Assistant Head roles.
These positions must be in urban schools (with more than 20% of
pupils eligible for Free School Meals) and preferably within an
area with clear succession planning needs. Ideally, the schools
should be working collaboratively - for example, as part of networks
or federations. It is essential that the school has strong talent
management capabilities to further the development of our participants.
Our expectation is that the Future Leaders will be ready for their
first headship within four years of joining the programme, making
this an ideal opportunity for schools looking to develop a head
for the near future.
If you are interested in recruiting a Future Leader to join your
senior leadership team, please contact Carina Grimaldi on carina.grimaldi@future-leaders.org.uk.
2. Nominate a potential Future Leader to apply
If you have spotted someone with strong leadership
potential who is committed to challenging urban schools, nominate
them to apply to Future Leaders. We aim to create a continuous
cycle of senior leadership – recognising talent is the first
step to this.
You can nominate a candidate by clicking here.
Alternatively, encourage your nominee(s) to contact Lucy Nicholls on recruitment@future-leaders.org.uk.
3. Apply to become a “residency school”
We are always looking for suitable training
environments for our Future Leaders to be placed in during their
residency year. These schools should be committed to high achieving
urban schools, and led by an exceptional headteacher who will
act as a mentor to the participant throughout the residency year.
At present, we are only considering working with Greater London and Greater Manchester secondary schools. If
you are interested in becoming a residency school, please contact
the Head of School Networks on schools@future-leaders.org.uk.
